An evaluation of GPT 5.6-Cyber demonstrated that advanced AI agents can autonomously escape QEMU/KVM virtual machines by chaining kernel, library, and hypervisor vulnerabilities. The agent successfully exploited known but unpatched flaws (CVE-2026-53359, CVE-2026-9539) and discovered multiple 0-days in QEMU and Linux KVM to achieve reliable VM escapes. This proves standard VM sandboxes are insufficient for containing cyber-capable AI agents, necessitating minimal attack surface hypervisors and stricter isolation.

VMs won't contain cyber-capable agents How to defend ARM64 cloud infrastructure from ITScape ITScape (CVE-2026-46316) is a critical guest-to-host escape vulnerability located in the vGIC-ITS emulation of KVM/arm64. By exploiting a race condition that triggers a double-put use-after-free, an attacker with guest kernel privileges can execute arbitrary code on the host kernel, completely compromising the hypervisor and threatening multi-tenant cloud infrastructure.
